Is it time for a "Save our Parks", city wide campaign with a remit of zero tolerance to any form of private business in any of our parks?
A grand turn out last night, Save Pollok Park debate, but we need people to go home and start campaigning for all of our parks, especially the ones in the poorer parts of the city. The council have all the money (including ours) can afford the lawyers and have the backing of business. We at the end of the day when the dust settles and the cheering ends, have overworked campaigners, struggling to fight this might with a photo copier, a mountain of research to do and as much imagination as we can muster.
If the council don't get there way in Pollok Park, they will go away an bully for some other green space where local folk can't create the same support as Pollok Park. A hurt to one of our parks is a hurt to them all and if we don't grab the day and spread the campaign it will come back to haunt us, because they will pick us off like flies. Once this business animal gets free in any of our parks - there is no way we will get it out again.
January Reshuffle Pearce Institute Govan This Saturday 26. Come and find out about parks and green space and what's happening to our "Common Good" The programme is:
1pm Common Good Film -
Simon Yuill "This film presents an overview of what the Common Good is, featuring an interview with land reform activist Andy Wightman along with members of local communities involved in Common Good campaigns. It offers some practical guides of how other communities can find out more, take action over their Common Good assets, and outlines suggestions of how bringing the Common Good back into public control could benefit all our communities directly. Whilst the story of the Common Good stretches back into our history it is an issue of major relevance today, connecting with issues of community land ownership, the control of public assets, and urban redevelopment."
