CCA film night for the Dear Green Place
Communities, the Common Good and Climate Change - a film night for the Dear
Green Place, at 7pm, Wednesday, 14th May 2008, CCA cinema (CCA 4) Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA), 350 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow


Admission free (but ticketed)


Three short films presenting people's stories of standing up for their
communities to protect public assets. They will provide inspiration for
anyone who is interested in fuel poverty and the energy crisis by
highlighting examples of people supporting sustainable ways of living.


1. 'Given To The People'
is a film telling the story of the Pollok Free
State. The Free State was initiated by the actions of local resident, Colin Macleod,
who began a tree top protest against the building of the M77 motorway through
Pollok Park in the early 1990s.

2. The Common Good in Scotland
- an interview with Andy WightmanAndy Wightman is one of Scotland's leading land reform researchers and author of the book 'Who Owns Scotland'. In this interview he explains what is known as the 'Common Good' in Scotland.


3. The Power of Community
How Cuba survived the oil crisis imposed on them. An inspirational story
about how life changed drastically without cheap energy, but how the
community pulled together and now live healthier happier lifestyles that has
bought about many unexpected benefits.Total running time: 103 minutes.
The films will be introduced by Martha Wardrop. There will be time for
discussion regarding the common good issues and current climate change
activity following the films.


Tickets will be available on the night of the screening, but if you wish to
get one in advance please contact the CCA box office a week or so before the
screening. All tickets are free.

Common Good Day Scotland Saturday 24th May 10am-4pm
Common Good is the name given to the inherited property of the former burghs of Scotland. This land and assets still exist and still belong to the people and could be a significant resource for regenerating local communities. Come and spend the day with all those involved in reclaiming our Common Good. Discussions, talks, films....information to take away so you can become a Common Good Detective. Common Good expert Andy Wightman will be in attendance along with others involved in campaigns throughout the country. Come and get involved in reclaiming the inheritance of the people of Scotland.
