CEDAR STREET TENANTS

- PUBLIC MEETING -

FIX THE LIFT NOW!

We're organising a tenants meeting next week for our road because our lift has been broken for more than 2 months. The text for the leaflet is below, and it would be nice if some of you came to the meeting. We demand: · The lift is fixed now, immediately. We don't want apologies from GHA Ltd we want urgent action; if it were their homes we were talking about it would be fixed by now. · We are kept informed if its going to take any longer to be fixed. An official communication should be posted in the entrance foyer. Come along to the Cedar Street Tenants public meeting. Woodside Halls, Clarenden St. Wednesday 13th April 2005, 7:30pm

GLASGOW HOUSING ASSOCIATION LTD CREATING BITTER HOMES CREATING ANGRY COMMUNITIES

The lift that serves half the tenants at 65 Cedar St has been out of order for over 2 months. During that time the affected residents have had to use the narrow and slippery fire escape for 3 flights of stairs to access their own homes. The elderly, the disabled and those with babies have been virtually housebound. This is dangerous and a Health and Safety issue. After more than 2 months of silence from GHA Ltd, now we get an insulting letter "thanking us for our patience" and being careful not to promise anything. We are told that they "anticipate" it will be fixed before the middle of May - over a month away. We are fed up with GHA Ltd treating us with contempt. They use our rent money to send around glossy brochures telling us all how great they are, but don't provide us with the basic services we should be able to expect. In December they tore out everyone's existing heating systems and replaced them with smaller units, whether the residents wanted them changed or not. This damaged everybody's interior decoration, and there were rumours of minimal compensation, but even that has not been forthcoming. GHA Ltd are quick enough to send letters round if we are even a day late paying our rent, but they do not keep up their end of the bargain as our landlord. Why should we believe them now?
