Update Backpark

On behalf of Backpark campaigners I contacted you in March 2004 to advise about plans to demolish the List D McKissock cinema and build 90 flats and parking just round the corner at junction of Cathcart and Holmlea Road.Glasgow.

Now in January 2005, this development has been amended to 76 flats and car parking spaces.   The cinema is of course one year on the worse for wear and the owner still making no signs to repair.

There is no reply from them to letters. We are still campaigning for better community use of this area.  We would like to see the football pitch renovated or even tennis courts or skateboard park.  There are four primary schools in the area who could use these.   In a corner could be a sensory garden with easy disabilty access.

The cinema could be converted into training workshops and a Community Centre.   There are no sports or leisure centres in the area.  If you don't belong to a church or bowling club there are no local amenities for young or old.

Up till now we have  managed to persuade over 80 people to write to the Planning Department objecting to the development. We are still encouraging people to write in to object as the reduction in the number of houses is coming from the top of the building and makes no difference at all to the overall development and is still the loss of another green space.

Please write SOON   to Project 03/01962, George Street, Glasgow, G1 1QU,  or e,mail planning.representations@drs.Glasgow.gov.uk . For more info contact Kay Allan  571 1215 or e.mail  kay.allan7@ntlworld.com .

Very best wishes and hope you are all well. Kay.
