Letter from America

Today I cast my vote. My hope is that Kerry wins the majority and the current inhabitant at the White House is shown the door. Bush visited our area this last Friday. Thousands readied their attendance. In order for people to get tickets and attend the rally, each person had to sign an oath of allegiance to the Republican party. People apposed were kept out of the picture and away from the "president."

A nearby community, Jacksonville, hosted Bush and his wife that evening after his rally. The secret service secured the small community with the aid of a riot team and local officers. Supporters and non supporters crowded Jacksonville. Supporters of Bush chanted the slogan "four more years," while the opposed called back "three more weeks!"

Many people took their young children. There were also several elderly people in attendance. The valley in which we live is a microcosm of the innocent. Both sides were in good calm spirits until the night turned ugly as police forced the liberal side onto the street at which time the secret service unleashed stun guns and pepper spray to drive the onslaught back to the curb and away from where Mr. Bush was dining.

Many people were hurt in the process including children and an elderly man. Two young men were arrested for not obeying the order of a police officer. The country stands divided more than ever before. People are frightened. Those apposed to Bush are referred to as criminals. Bush said at the Rally referring to the local opposition "The enemies outside...." There in brief is what we are faced with. A short story of the bigger problem.

It is now clear how power like that of Hitler can insight a population into unthinkable acts. We are witness to a dangerous movement in this country. The Religious right is all too happy to follow as long as Their God remains the central issue. A "president" that openly praise is all that matters to these people. The facts are no matter.

Even if Kerry wins this November, the right will remain more potent than ever. Watch what they throw at us next time.

M.
