The G42 Collective was formed in September 2004 after the experience of running a Social Centre in Glasgow city centre during the summer.
We are a collective of about ten people who aim to establish a permanent Social Centre in Glasgow run on the principles of voluntary mutual aid, solidarity and by decision making without hierarchy.
The collective is called G42 because that's the postcode in the south side of Glasgow where several of us live and work. We feel that the Social Centre should be based in a community so it can be used to strengthen community solidarity as well as a political activist resource centre.
We fee! the best strategy to set up a permanent centre is to initially rent a space for a year to develop our experience as a collective before raising money to buy a permanent centre. Meeting weekly since September, we have managed to identify a suitable space available for rent and now need to raise the money to pay for it.
We plan to have the centre ready before the G8 Summit in July so it can be used for anti-G8 activity.
Other ideas for using the Social Centre include regular film shows, meeting and office space for Glasgow groups and campaigns, social events, an arts centre with workshop and exhibition space and regular creative workshops, cheap internet access, a weekly cafe and a radical bookshop.

CENTRE NEWS UPDATE
We have managed to find these three shops for rent on the
south-side of Glasgow.
The shops are connected and inside there are four rooms on the ground floor and three looms in the basement. One space is large enough for up to fifty people to have a meeting and there is a kitchen and a toilet in a back room.
We hope to rent the shops for a year in the very near future, then spend some time doing them up to open the G42 Social
Centre sometime in the Spring.
To do this we need help to raise money to pay the rent, rates, bills and for materials for decorating and repairing
the centre.
And volunteers to help get the centre ready! Get in touch if you want to be involved!
