Workshops in basic computer skills
Thought about having your own "blog" (Web Log) Dont know how to
do it. Need some friendly advice on how to go about it. Email, search the
web (effectively) What about a web-site - What is "Open Source"
Writing for the internet - and other computery things that you havent got
round to.
Workshop where the experts can learn from the absolute beginners to in how
to communicate the basics for getting started in the weird and wonderful
world of computer technology. You don't need to own a computer or ever want
to own one for this workshop. But in a world that is being more and more
driven by IT (Information Technology) it is as well you have some knowledge
of the basic ideas.
The workshops can lead to others more specific areas of IT involvement where
interest is shown.
Dates to be organised and will be posted.

Ideas for contributors - content - shape - size - feel
A magazine is in the pipeline [Publication target December] The idea of
a Glasgow User Manual has been waiting to happen for a while. The Bridge
Project, events organising, Common Good awareness, useful information and
some City Strolls stuff, on a hard copy. Be good to highlight some of the
achievements, the campaigning and projects people and places that are around.
[More details soon if you have something to offer.] Also if you would like
to join the team or make a contribution or have ideas towards printing costs
distribution. In the pipeline
Ideas for "Common Good" Symbol
I have interviewed art students, people in Govan, people who have been to
university, people in the street - all ages. Question .Do you know what
the Common Good is? Answer 99% of the time. No. Or. No, not really.
For each and every person asked who said no, a 10 second explanation of
the CG reversed the answer to - Oh yes that stuff, I know what that is -
the parks, art galleries etc.
I have come to the conclusion - what we need is a symbol that represents
the Common Good - something kids and grown-ups could recognise, something
that could be put on badges, something that would be recognisable in any
part of the country? Have you an idea (no mater how silly) Send it to me.We
could have lots of different ones representing special parts of our local
community as someone suggested.
Prizes for best ideas:
First prize: An art gallery
Second prize: A listed building
Third prize: The lord provost "gold chain"
Best Prize: Helping to create awareness and preserving our Common Good for
all.
Try and send/post images and wee drawings rather than just description text (Don't worry about the drawing it's the idea that counts) Get the weans to do them -they always come up with great ideas
If you want to mail sketches send them to:
City Strolls, Electron Club, CCA 350 Sauchiehall Street Glasgow G2 3JD
The Bridge Project
Know anything about Wordpress add-ons widgets etc. Could be doing with some
help. http://72.249.77.31:8060/
We have all the bits, they just need to be bolted together. Feedback needed.
Take a look, how does it look. What would you like to see?
Ask Magnus what needs done: magnus@citystrolls.com. In the pipeline
Science tech
As science touches all of our lives at some point, even the mistakenly called
[Luddites], Global Warming, all sorts of technologies, telecommunications,
WMD, all the technological by products of science to the natural sciences
of wind rain and power all combine to create a big part of our world. Creating
awareness of the sciences and what they are being used for is an important
contribution to our communities. City strolls through the Bridge Project
will endeavour to highlight interesting ways to look at science and create
collaborations and crossover points with other projects. In the
pipeline
USA
I am hoping to get to the States sometime later in the year [NY and LA].
A busman's holiday of course. Hope to visit some interesting places, projects,
and collect some visual and audio info and maybe some Bridge collaboration,
info swap . Anything around NY LA or San francisco worth looking at, you
know of - let me know. Bob
The Reshuffle
What will happen before January as far as another Reshuffle goes I don't
know. However there will definitely be one in January at the Pearce Institute.
Venue, theme suggestions any body...
How about: What we do want? A mass consultation day workshop on what we
do want in our communities? In the pipeline
May Day
There has been some debate in the pipeline about a different kind of May
Day. If you have any suggestions, be good to hear them now if things are
to be organised. Also future collaborations benefit from early organisation.
We are all ears here.In the pipeline
